The state-owned forest of Prigionette-Porto Conte, also known as Arca di Noè or “Noah’s Ark”, is one of the richest and most sensitive places within the Porto Conte Regional Nature Reserve in terms of its organic biodiversity. A historic nature reserve, it is also the forestry work site of the Forestas Agency, which has been managing it for more than half a century. Within the forest, thanks to a well-developed network of trails, visitors are given the opportunity to appreciate the typical fragrances and colours of the Mediterranean flora and to come across animals such as the Sardinian donkey, the Asinara donkey and feral, untamed horses. On the plain of Sant’Imbenia, deer and boar are also a very common sight. Moreover, thanks to a repopulation project, it is increasingly common to see the aerial acrobatics of griffon vultures in and around the cliffs of Cala Barca. Along the trails, you will pass through a variety of landscapes, taking in everything from the unmistakable terrain of the high rocky crags to typically hilly topography. Particularly noteworthy are the organic endemisms at the end of the path leading to Cala Barca, where you can admire the scrubland communities of unusual species such as Centaurea horrida, limonium nymphaeum and astragalus.

The state-owned forest of Prigionette-Porto Conte can be visited throughout the year, at various times depending on the season. The entrance offers numerous facilities: an information point, toilets, bicycle hire, a picnic area, a playpark, e-bike hire, and guided tour services.
